What my boys did during the Superbowl:

Walla Walla Windstorm

January 8th, 2008

Well, the wind speed picked up Friday, as we had wind gusts up to 78 mph. This blew over quite a few trees, and caused quite a bit of property damage.

Power lines were down all over Walla Walla. This tree fell a block from my house.

This power pole snapped like a twig.

The front of this house was smashed pretty badly.

A smashed car.

According to the Walla Walla Union Bulletin

“Miraculously no injuries have been reported to emergency responders as a direct result of the storm.”

Happy Windy New Year!

January 4th, 2008

The weather today is much warmer than the sub-freezing weather earlier this week. The tradeoff for the warm temperature is that now we have a windstorm. Weather.com shows the following weather for Walla Walla:

The morning commute took a few minutes longer than usual. A 50 mph blast really slows the bike down.

Leadville 100 MTB

August 16th, 2007

Trust But Verify this week had excellent coverage of the Leadville 100 MTB race. The battle between Dave Wiens and Floyd Landis was exciting, but the most inspirational part of the coverage were the blogs of the average riders. The perserverence of some riders just to finish was incredible. It makes me want to participate the Leadville 100, or some equally challenging race someday.

I made a summary page of Leadville 100 links that can be found HERE.
